A tornado ravaged through parts of Wetumpka Saturday afternoon significantly damaging buildings, churches, and homes. Radar confirmed a tornado on the ground around 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Numerous reports show substantial damage to homes, overturned cars, and downed trees. WETUMPKA — Downtown Wetumpka received major tornado damage Saturday after a severe storm came through the River Region. One injury was reported by 4:30 p.m., said Mayor Jerry Willis. Just before 3 p.m., the NWS reported a radar confirmed tornado in downtown Wetumpka.Videos shared on social media show collapsed buildings, toppled trees and significant damage near the Wetumpka Police Department. Wetumpka, Alabama was experiencing a black out on Saturday after a possible tornado swept through the downtown neighborhoods and caused homes to collapse. At 2:51pm, damage reports from the storms indicated that the storm was likely producing a tornado along South Main Street in Wetumpka.
