An Updated Definitive List of the Bodega Boy's Aliases — Part 4!

Shout out to u/Misanthropia for the original post — the hive needed more updated art!
This list is current as of episode 234 (2/10/21)
Desus goes by numerous aliases on the Bodega Boys Podcast. These aliases are based on references to pop culture, sports, and hip-hop. The long and ever-changing list of aliases or "AKAs" are one of the many running gags on the show. During an interview with Method Man on Desus and Mero, Desus explained that the idea for aliases was based on the alter-egos of the rappers in the song "Wu-Gambinos" on the album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... by Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon. (info via Wikipedia)
Desus & Mero no longer record from Milk Studios (moved indefinitely) and have been recording the podcast remotely from home due to the pandemic. Most of the AKA’s now mention social distancing, hot takes on covid and store closures.

Desus

Desus is extremely consistent with his aliases, almost always presenting them in the exact same order and without any exclusions:
Desus Nice — In a Hot 97 interview on April 13th 2017, Desus explains that people started calling him Desus as a play on his government name, "Daniel", and "Jesus", because he worked miracles with people's computers
Young Chipotle — Desus’ original alias, he explains in one podcast that it originates from when he was broke and buying Chipotle was a genuine treat
Pockets stay fat like Terio (Pockets stay fat like 'here we go') — A reference to viral star Terio, a young, obese African American boy whose videos of him dancing launched him to very brief viral fame. Recently, Desus added the more politically correct and kid friendly “here we go”
Eli Litby — A play on Eli Whitney, inventor of the cotton gin
Boutros Boutros Gully — A play on Boutros Boutros-Ghali, former Secretary-General of the UN, “Gully” being Jamaican Patois for an impoverished area
Slobodan Might-know-ya-bitch — A play on Slobodan Milosevic, former President of Serbia and important player in the Bosnian War
Young Day Party — I believe this was adopted in the summer of 2016 after Desus recounted the story of a day party in D.C., which seemed to invigorate his love for partying during the day
Young Hot Take — He has hot takes, pretty obvious here
Desus H. Fuego — Another moniker to describe his hot (“fuego”) takes on topics
Mr. Nandos with a rando — Nandos is a portuguese chicken restaurant chain which originated in South Africa and is big in the UK and Australia. Rando is slang for random person. Having Nandos with a rando is eating chicken with a random person (credit to u/deweez)
Mr. Mil Novecientos Noventa Y Cuatro en Nueva York — In later episodes Desus rarely adds the “en Nueva York” bit, but it translates to “Mr. 1994 in New York”. "The Knicks team in 1994 made the finals and is a legendary team amongst all Knicks fans who were around at the time. That team got to game 7 of the finals against the Rockets. NYC rallied around that team hard body because that team absolutely embodied NYC to a T with guys like Ewing, Charles Oakley, Mason, Starks, and Derek Harper." (credit to u/Okieant33)
Mikhail Goin-off — derived from former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev (credit to u/GhettoFob) converged with an allusion to losing ones temper in an act of random violence.
The Jouvert Boss — “Jouvert” is a carnival held in Caribbean/West Indian culture, involving a lot of partying
MC Likkle Gungo Pea — Gungo pea is a type of peas (also known as pigeon peas) often used in Jamaican dishes. Reference to his Jamaican heritage (credit to u/hopelessromcom)
"Pullin' up from 40 with your shorty" — Desus will “pull up”, or make a pass at, your girl even when the odds are slim or unlikely, much like a 40 foot shot in basketball
"Don’t talk to me in the Uber Pool, I don’t know you" — Uber introduced a service where you can share rides with other Uber users for a discounted rate. Desus has expressed his reluctance to engage with strangers when he is using it
The original “my plus one got a plus one so don’t make a fuss son” — When Desus shows up to an event with a girl, he brings two, and he's intimating that the host shouldn’t have a problem with that
Desus Rothstein, the Jamaican Jew — Originated around when Mero began his house search in Bergen County, NJ where a number of wealthy people of Jewish descent live. Desus envisions a version of himself who would fit in there
Jermaine Avocado Toast — Desus has gotten more cultured as a result of their success, and as such he has been able to indulge in things usually enjoyed by privileged white people, a stereotypical example of that being avocado toast. This is Desus’ gentrified, hipster persona
Young PA — Possible reference to the sound of small amount of air being expelled from a loose butthole, which is an impression Mero occasionally does (credit to u/jimsternub). This is also a reference to Brooklyn rapper Young MA.
The Ghost of Mufasa — A reference to Lion King, but beyond that I have no idea why he adopted it. Still hilarious though, and the nickname that most often makes Mero laugh
Young Charcuterie without the coonery — Charcuterie is considered very hip and trendy right now, and Desus is again saying he has a taste for the finer things, but is no longer interested in “coonery”, a derogatory term used to describe stereotypical African American behavior
Chile Limon, the left handed reliever for the Yankee’s (Que lo que?) — A fictional persona that seems to be a Latino version of Dock Ellis, who famously threw a no hitter while high on Acid. Chile Limon is also a popular seasoning/flavor with the Latino community
3 Phone Jones — Desus originally adopted "2 Phone Jones" after he reluctantly bought an iPhone to go with his Samsung Galaxy. He then received a Google Pixel, making it 3 Phone Jones (credit to u/ArtSorr0w)
Desus Ex Machina — A play on the common plot device “deus ex machina”, or “god from the machine” in which an unsolvable problem is suddenly resolved by some unexpected intervention. Desus also used to have a tumblr entitled "Desus Ex Machina" (credit to u/hardcore9)
Jay Chuckles — Revealed in episode 55 to be a reference to a now-defunct shoe store in NYC. Did Desus read this thread?
Stanley Cups — Desus' former rap alias, as revealed in episode 53.
The Human Dr. Bronner’s Label (Dilute! Dilute! Dilute!) — A reference to the concentrated soap Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap, which needs to be diluted. I didn’t quite understand how Desus applied this to himself, but it came from a joke in Episode 51 or 52 about Sean Spicer trying to defray controversy surrounding President Trump's decisions
Dionardo DiTrappio — A play on “Leonardo DiCaprio”, the actor, but referencing “trapping”, a slang for selling drugs.
Mr. 240p because I like my Pino blurry — Desus longs for the days of very low resolution pornography. 240p refers to the resolution, which is extremely low by modern standards
DJ Woolite AKA You're listening to Washed FM up next we got 24 hours of — The host of the fictional station “Washed FM”, a fictional radio station that is sometimes referenced along with “WSMK, Smack City Radio”. Woolite is a brand of fabric softener. Desus said multiple times on the podcast that now that he's single and living alone, he washes his clothes with extra fabric softener. As a kid, his clothes would get washed and be hard as nails. Again, he's got a taste for the finer things in life. (credit to u/Okieant33)
The Curried G.O.A.T. — A double reference to Desus’s Jamaican heritage, where Curried Goat is a popular culinary item, as well as referencing the phrase “G.O.A.T”, short for “greatest of all time”
Desus Spicer — A play on the former White House Press Secretary, Sean Spicer, who is often referenced on Desus & Mero as “spicing up” or “adding spice” to his takes
Jamal Hashburn — A play on Jamal Mashburn, a former NBA player, about Hash
The Bronx Celine Dion — Refers to the fact that Celine Dion is very popular in the Jamaican community, and so Desus is like Celine, but from the Bronx. (credit to u/chefboyardu) This is especially present with foreign and immigrant culture which means he is of mogul or iconic status for the Bronx (credit to u/courtofdacrimsonking)
Wray and Nephew's Nephew — A play on J. Wray and Nephew rum, which has its origins in Jamaica like Desus. Also, Desus drinks a lot, which you probably should have figured out by now. Introduced in episode 58
The Moreno you can't contain-o — A play on "moreno", a Spanish term for someone with dark skin
The Human Meme, Word to Ja — A play on Ja Rule's infamous mistake of believing that the word "meme" is pronounced "may-may"
Young Erewhon — A reference to a bourgeois health food store in LA, which makes this nickname in the vein of "Jermaine Avocado Toast", demonstrating Desus' taste for finer things now. (credit to u/a-1-since-day-1)
The Racist Provocateur — Desus flipped an angry tweet from April 28th 2017, in which someone called him a "racist provocateur" into a new alias
Henrik Bud-qvist — A play on NHL goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who currently plays for the New York Rangers
Nelson Bang-dela — An old alias resurrected in episode 65, a play on South African civil right's icon Nelson Mandela
Sergio Can't-see-me — A play on Sergio Tacchini, an Italian fashion designer and former Tennis player
Vladimir Boofin' — A play on Russian president Vladimir Putin, "boofin" being a reference to smuggling something by sticking it inside one's rectum
The Human Werther's, melting in your mouth — A reference to Werther's Originals, a brand of caramel hard candies favored by old people. Not really sure what this one means otherwise.
Mr. Becks on Deckington — The first time Desus introduced this one, he accidentally said "Mr. Becky's on Deckington" which was an incredible Freudian slip since Desus has been accused of not being into black women, and "Becky" is the stereotypical white woman name in pop culture. This is a reference to Desus always drinking Beck's, a cheap beer he favors along with Heineken. Adding "-ington" to words is New York slang, as Mero explains at some point.
Rikki-Tikki-Squad-bi — A play on Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, a character from the Jungle Book
Greg "Paaa"-povitch — A very meta play on San Antonio Spur's head coach Greg Popovich and the onomatopoeia of spreading butt cheeks apart (according to Mero)
Morris "Say it with your chest"-nut — A play on actor Morris Chestnut
Mahatma Gone-B — A play on famed pacifist Mahatma Gandi
Not Macka B but I got the cucumber — A reference to a viral video in which Reggae artist Macka B raps about healthy food in his "medical monday" series, Desus is unsurprisingly referencing his penis
The juices are pressed but your boy never is — Being "pressed" means someone is applying pressure to you, and no one would do that to Desus. The juices he is talking about are probably the morning drink he has with lemongrass and cayenne pepper that he makes reference to many times in recent episodes of the podcast.
I am the Art, dammit! — Not sure if this is a reference to anything specific or just a Kanye-esque line a crazed creative might yell out at some point
The Don Dada Ganoush — I believe this is a reference to the Meditteranean dish Baba Ganoush, "Don Dada" is Jamaican Patois slang (I believe) for “top pimp” or “big player” and a sort-of homophone for "baba"
No more Cup of Noodles — I don't know if this is a reference beyond the fact that Cup of Noodles is a struggle meal and Desus is no longer struggling
The Prince of Peckham — A reference to Peckham, a diverse neighborhood in London
The Fashion Nova Casanova — Fashion Nova is an online clothing retailer that specifically targets curvy women that Desus and Mero reference pejoratively (saying it's for bottle waitresses), Desus is saying here that he excels at seducing these kind of women ("Casanova" is a term of a man who excels at seducing women derived from the name of Italian Giacomo Casanova)
"William H. 5 Cent, 10 Cent, Dolla... Forget the small change, give me the the big money wine" — A reference to Soca Boys song "Dollar Wine (one cent, five cent, ten cent, dollar)" which apparently was super popular in the West Indies. "William H Holla is something Jay-Z used to call himself back in his hey day. It comes from the fact that Bill Gates' full name is William Henry Gates. Jay-Z used to give himself nicknames back in the day. J-Hova caught on but he used the term William H Holla because Jay-Z also coined the phrase "Holla At Me" and "Holla Back" and just shortened it to "Holla". So put the two together and you have William H Holla. He first said it on the song "Stick to the Script" off the Dynasty album. So Desus took it and made it his own." (credit to u/Okieant33)
The only anthem I salute is Dipset — A reference to the ongoing national anthem protests in the NFL, Desus is saying the only anthem he salutes is "Dipset Anthem" by Harlem rap legends The Diplomats
Mister Sauga, Catch me at Square One Top Left. Mans is marved. (Dont cheese me bro) — Finally a Canadian-centric reference, which makes sense given that the Bodega Boys have performed there multiple times. This is a reference to the Square One Shopping Center in Mississauga, Canada (where Desus alleges his mysterious wife and kids live), and "top left" is Greater Toronto Area slang for "truthful" or "seriously". "Mans is marved", means "I'm hungry" in Toronto slang (credit to u/Fortehlulz33)
Trill Rizzuto, holy cow! — A reference to former Yankees player Phil Rizzuto who would later go on to be a commentator, where his trademark expression was "holy cow!"
Mister Soft Palms because all I do is count checks and jerk off — I don't know if this is a reference to anything except Desus bragging about his lifestyle
"We got OJ, uh purple stuff, soda, and it's me! Sunny D!" — A reference to an old Sunny D commercial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQE3jWYuGiw), and a play on the fact that people likely used to called Desus by the nickname "D", so "it's me! Sunny D" would be like saying "it's me, Desus!". Also kind of ironic since Desus is not a particularly sunny person (cue Dark Desus).
David Yerp-man — A play on David Yurman, an expensive jewelry company, and NYC slang exclamation "yerp"
Desus-expensive, Desus-Red Bottoms, Desus-bloody shoes — A play on a lyric from fellow Bronx native Cardi B taken from her song "Bodak Yellow"
Smo-a-kim Noah — A play on NBA player Joaquim Noah who played for the Knicks
Andrew Coooooool-nanan — A reference to serial killer (most notable for killing Gianni Versace) Andrew Cunanan
The Junior Energy God, come sit down 'pon me charger — Originally just the "Energy God" until Desus realized that that was fellow Jamaican Elephant Man's aliases. I thiiiink this is referring to the phrase "bring the same energy", the idea that if one is saying something behind someone's back, when confronted by the individual they should stick to their original statements. This alias started after the infamous Desus & Mero visit to the Breakfast Club, in which DJ Envy accosted the boys about a joke they made about his wife. Desus & Mero didn't punk out and therefore "brought the same energy". Someone tell me if I'm reaching here.
Call me PetCo cause I got your bitch-on-freeze — A play on words for the dog breed Bichon Frise
The Topic of Gossip in Syosset (Shout out to 11791 ah ah ah) — Syosset (zip code 11791) is a town in Long Island, NY. it's real bougie and suburban so Desus is saying basically he's got reach and is known not just in the hood but in the wealthy burbs too (credit to u/terminal-chillness)
Grandpa Joe, When you see Charlie you see me don't touch that golden ticket — A direct reference to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Grandpa Joe) and Desus's cats name (Charlie)
Dead Eye Desus (Mornin’ Sherrif) — Dead Eye Desus refers to the 2018 video game Red Dead Redemption 2. The game features a gameplay mechanic called "Dead Eye" that allows the player to slow time to achieve easy head shots and kills. The game is also set in the late 1800's, early 1900's in the old West, which is why Desus typically references a Sheriff after saying Dead Eye Desus. (credit to u/biggak)
Mr. Shopping at StreetEasy with a bad breezy like I'm Yeezy, please believe me — Another one of Desus' tongue twisters, this one is in reference to shopping at StreetEasy, a NYC real estate website with an attractive woman like Kanye West might do
The Black Asiatic who will crack your back like an automatic craftmatic — Added in episode 54 after Desus' continuing gag about "big Black Asiatic men" (often referencing their penises). Here Desus is implying that sex with him (a Black Asiatic man) is very vigorous by saying he will change your posture like a Craftmatic mattress, which is a brand of mattress whose shape and orientation can be controlled electronically
Mr. La Marina in a mesh Merina with a fresh misdemeanor and a cold demeanor — This one is a doozy, but was adopted after Desus mentioned his frequent trips to La Marina (a bar on the water in Manhattan) in episodes released in the summer of 2016. A mesh Merina is a a mesh tank top (I think). The other two parts are self explanatory. Not sure how he always gets this one right without mixing up the words.
The Sheet-Mask Killer (No one could be iller) — A reference to Sheet Masks, a skin care routine some might find to be bougie. "No one could be iller" is a reference to how ODB introduces Ghostface Killah on "Da Mystery of Chessboxin" by Wu Tang Clan (credit to u/atorMMM)
The Black Zack Morris of Port Morris — A take on Zack Morris for his problematic schemes on Saved by the Bell. (credit to u/justic3bon3r) Port Morris is a neighborhood in the Bronx (credit to u/m9rockstar) home of The Bronx Brewery and Bodega Boys Beer
Young KPI — More than likely a reference to the various random office jobs Desus had (KPI = key performance indicator) (credit to u/atorMMM)
Your Personal Desus — Desus sometimes will recite lyrics by Depeche Mode “Personal Jesus” (1989) More than likely this is a play off his main alias (credit to u/justic3bon3r)
The Pelé of Peleton — Pelé (Edson Arantes do Nascimento) was a former Brazilian soccer player and considered one of the greats. Desus is an avid Peleton user so much he deems himself the greatest of all time
Your problematic bae — Desus occasionally says problematic things, but you still love him, hence him being your “bae”. He always ends with this one, followed by an exaggerated kissing sound.
*After Desus's last aka he gives some sort of problematic advice sometimes followed by explosions*

Mero

Mero (u/THE_KID_MERO) is far less consistent with his aliases. Depending upon how smacked he is, he will often exclude or repeat some of his aliases. He also adds them far less frequently than Desus.
The Kid Mero — In a Hot 97 interview on April 13th 2017, Mero explained that this alias comes from the fact that his father and uncle wanted to name him "Ramiro", but his mother vetoed it and named him "Joel". His father and uncle continued to call him "Ramiro", which was shortened to "Miro" as a nickname. When Mero started tagging, he changed Miro to Mero because he found E to be a nicer letter to write (credit to u/atorMMM) as well as he just didn't like how the "i" looked. Also tagging the name "Ramiro" that long would get you arrested
The Human Durag Flap — Mero’s original nickname, and a reference to how hood he is and his uncircumcised status, something that gets referenced very often (credit u/ZeddyG2 and u/chandlersokay)
Curve Gotti — A play on “Irv Gotti”, former boss of Murder, Inc. records
Donovan Mcdabb — A play on former NFL player Donovan Mcnabb, in reference to dabbing, which could have two meanings (smoking THC oil or the dance move created by the Migos)
Trizz Khalifa — A play on “Wiz Khalifa”, but substituting the first part of the name with the slang “Trizz”. Usually said in a fake patois, imitating Popcaan's cry of "Fuck Wiz Khalifa!" at a Mixpak event
SKKRRRT Loder — A play on “Kurt Loder” former host on MTV News and editor at Rolling Stone
James St. Fatdick, I'll Ghost on you shorty — Originated right around the premiere of season 4 of Starz hit show "Power", here referencing the main character James St. Patrick, whose street alias is "Ghost"
Tiger Backwoods — A reference to pro golfer Tiger Woods and Mero’s love for smoking backwoods
“I no fucking baby, I fucking man!” — A reference to the viral video that sent friend of the brand Pioladitingancia to fame
“Check the guest list again because my name is definitely on it, and no I’m not stepping to the side while you check! ” — Not so much a nickname but something Mero might have said back in the day when he was broke and had to lie about being on guest lists to get into clubs
CC Dab-bathia — A play on Yankees Starting Pitchers name, CC Sabathia (and close friend of the brand)
Goldman Shm-achs — A variation of the phrase made popular by Bobby Shmurda and a reference to Goldman Sachs.
Mensch Montana — An alias borrowed from French Montana (who is from South Bronx) and popular artist with the Bodega Boys. They have mentioned his classic Mac and Cheese mixtapes numerous times on the podcast. Also this is a nod to his Jewish family connection; Mensch is Yiddish for "good guy." (credit to u/chefboyardu)
The Da-da-da Dad of the year — A play on a lyric from ScHoolboy Qs song "Man of The Year" (credit u/ZeddyG2). Mero already has three Mero Jr’s and the bodega princess, and as far as we can tell is an awesome dad, thus earning such a title. Confirmed to be a ScHoolboy Q reference in episode 56
Been-Smacked Biyombo — A play on “Bismack Biyombo”, a professional basketball player on the Charlotte Hornets
Di-Yayo Maradona — Reference to Argentinean soccer legend Diego Maradona and slang for coke (credit to u/terminal-chillness)
Dick-in-ya-bae Mutombo — A play on Dikembe Mutombo, former NBA player. Mero now respects the woman’s agency and asks for permission first before entering
Barlos Santana — A play on famed guitarist Carlos Santana and Xanax bars
The Dominican Don Dada — Jamaican Patois slang (I believe) for “top pimp” or “big player”, and as we know Mero is of Dominican descent, hence “Dominican Don Dada”. The phrase "Jamaican Don Dada" is used by the character Lennox in the movie "Belly", which is a classic in hip hop culture (credit to u/a-1-since-day-1) He follows this up with "catch me at Locksmith throwing up on myself". Locksmith is a bar on 192nd & Broadway in Inwood, which is a REALLY Dominican NYC neighborhood (credit to u/terminal-chillness)
Some variation of "swipe my card again, put the bag over it, there's definitely money on it!" — A reference to a familiar experience for anyone who has been broke, in which you lie and act like it's the store's fault when your card gets declined
Romeo Xantos — A reference to famed Bachata artist and Xanax, Bachata being a dance and music style originating in the Dominican Republic. Also the added "Sooo xanny, lemme black out" is a play on Romeo's adlib "sooo nasty, lemme find out" (credit to u/terminal-chillness)
Light-an-L Dutchie "Hello? Is it weed you're looking for?" — Another weed double entendre referencing Lionel Richie and his famous song "Hello"
Papa Sushi, The Dyckman Don — A reference to often-referenced MamaSushi, a fusion sushi restaurant on Dyckman Street in Manhattan
Tom Brazy, your girl got my balls deflated — A boastful play on the Deflategate controversy surrounding Tom Brady and the New England Patriots after the 2014-2015 AFL Championship game
Feel-da-ass Tyson (CONSENSUALLY WITH YOUR PERMISSION) — A play on “Neil DeGrasse Tyson”, a well known physicist
Lil’ Snoozie Vert— A play on the name Lil Uzi Vert. This is also in reference for when Mero actually ‘tapped out’ on Instagram Live
Fry-an-L Messi — A play on Lionel Messi, a famous Argentinian soccer player of Italian descent, and smoking an "L", slang for blunt
Joe Hookah "I dare you! To smoke with me! At MamaSushi!" — A reference to rapper Black Rob's song "I Dare You" that features Joe Hooker on the hook. MamaSushi is a high-end restaurant chain located in New York
Ben Barson my hands are gifted — During the 2016 election cycle, famed neurosurgeon Ben Carson engaged in a brief campaign for the Republican nomination. Mero took to doing impressions of him, exaggerating Carson’s urban upbringing by saying he was “Ben Barson”, in which the “C” was replaced with a “B”, as a Blood gang member would. Unlike Desus, who almost never fumbles his nicknames, Mero has maybe said this one correctly one time
Xaniel Bedingfield — A play on Daniel Bedingfield followed by Mero playing "I Gotta Get Through This" a popular song by the artist Daniel Bedingfield with lyrics that are about Xanax (credit to u/KTTeal)
Some variation of “I’ll open your medicine cabinet and take all of your Benzos” — This is self-referential in two ways: 1. The earlier reference here is to when Mero admitted to Desus that he will unashamedly go through people’s medicine cabinets in order to snoop on their lives and 2. After the boat party story in which Mero got drunk and took some Xanax’s, he added “I’ll take all of your benzos” bit to express how much he enjoys the feeling Benzodiazepines create
The Xandman — This is a play on the musical artist “Scatman John” who was most known for his song “Scatman’s World”, the chorus of which Mero imitates with this name and the accompanying vocalization
Rico Sabroso — Spanish for “Rich Tasty”, but I’m not sure what the reference here is beyond that
Baby Newport — I assume a reference to Newport brand cigarettes, stereotypically popular in urban areas
Niño Brown — A reference to the main character of the film “New Jack City”, in which Wesley Snipes plays a crack dealer named Nino Brown, but pronounced like the Spanish word for "kid", giving it some Latino flavor (credit to u/Okieant33)
The East Tremont Stevie B — East Tremont is a predominately Hispanic area of the Bronx, while Stevie B was a recording artist from the 80’s with some incredible Jheri Curls. Sometimes sings "I want to be the one your Titi is fucking" after
I met Mike Francesca im never gon’ fail — A direct reference from when the Bodega Boys actually met Mike on the last episode on Desus & Mero on Viceland. In translation, this means after finally meeting with the iconic Sports Pope this makes him unstoppable. This is also a reference to Kanye West's song 'Ultralight Beam' where Chance the Rapper says "I met Kanye West, I'm never gonna fail" (credit to u/RemyDWD)
The Plantain Supernova in the Sky — A reference to the Oasis hit “Champagne Supernova”, but changed to reflect Mero’s Dominican heritage, which often uses plantains in its cuisine. Occasionally he will sing an extended version, which goes “One day you will find me, smoking weed on Tremont/in the Plantain Supernova in the sky”. How does he hit these melodies so perfectly every time?
Tom Petty and the Ball Breakers — A play on the rock band name ‘Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’. Mero sings the chorus from Tom Petty’s solo project “Free Fallin’” as “Free Ballin’” suggesting that he feels free doing his Zoom calls without pants
Barmelo Xanthony — An incredible play on the Bodega Boy’s favorite NBA player, Carmelo Xanthony, and Mero’s beloved Xanax’s. (credit to u/terminal-chillness) Most recently, Mero has changed his references to him making sound financial decisions and balancing his portfolio since the interview with Carmelo himself on Desus & Mero on Showtime
Some variation of “If you see me in Target approach me like a bear” — Originates from Mero’s love of getting really high and hanging out in Target. Being high sometimes makes him paranoid, so he doesn’t like people just running up on him. Desus suggested people “approach him diagonally, like you would a bear”. Mero interchanges “bear”, “Ursine Mammal”, and “Oso” (Spanish for “bear”) at random
Benzo the Clown — A problematic clown for kids that ruins birthday parties and not refunding your $50 deposit. Originated on Episode 96, Desus starts talking about rolling up to Mero Jr’s bar mitzvah smacked. (credit to u/outtaspite) Benzo’s antics are normally cut short by Mr. Fun Fun (voiced by Desus) normally ending with the problematic light
I sold fake Lean to your favorite SoundCloud rapper — Not sure this is a specific reference other than the fact that Lean is pretty much a guaranteed accessory for any SoundCloud rapper and Actavis discontinued their codeine/promethazine cough syrup in 2014 due to abuse, so a lot of people are drinking fake Lean.
"Llego el hijo de Tito y Fifa papi"/"The son of Tito and Fifa has arrived, papi — In later episodes, Mero began to include some Spanish phrases at the end of his list of aliases, usually beginning with this phrase and building off of it. When Mero does this he also says "Hassan tira me lo pita" which is slang for "Hassan drop me a beat". Mero is making pretend that he's a DJ on NY's Spanish Radio Station 97.9 La Mega. Mero from here goes on to talk all kinds of shit about how hard and gangster he is. (credit to u/bobbuddha and u/Okieant33)
Please correct me if you have ideas or see mistakes!

Queen of Boobs' Interview with Oliver TwiXt Recap

if any info below is wrong/innacurate, pls be nice and dont come at me like naomi campbell did with alasia (i mean what) ANYWAYS here we go:

  1. Kristin is in Los Angeles at the moment and has a boyfriend. she also has 4 dogs. she also has this little online store going on (check it out here on Instagram)
  2. Laura James was watching the live and even Molly peaked her head in
  3. Kristin was in Jacksonville, working at a restaurant, and had just finished high school before coming onto top model. She saw an ad for the show posted somewhere and she loved reality TV so she decided to try out and see what happens from there. So she sent in her video, someone scouted her, and she went to an in-person audition in Tallahassee (excuse my spelling). The interesting thing is that Kristin actually was never in college, so she had to go to a local school to get paperwork filled out/ smth about online school. Kristin also thinks that if she had won, the tuition money would not have been given to her since she actually wasn't in college
  4. Kristin had watched the first few seasons of ANTM and didn't care too much about the new changes (judges, social media, scoring). She thought the social media aspect was cool since her family members were able to see her
  5. Opinion on the judges:
    1. Kristin LOVED Kelly Cutrone because she was real. She even saw her in New York and was friendly to her.
    2. Despite Bryanboy being horrible to her, he invited her over for dinner in New York and he cooked for her and they even drank together.
    3. Kristin never had any sort of relationship with Rob.
    4. Kristin loved Johnny Wujek and wish she could have gotten closer to him even though she accidently offended him
  6. Contestants:
    1. Jessie was really sweet, nice, chill and even sees her on Instagram ads to this day
    2. Not much to say about Maria, but was intimidated and confused about her (since Kristin wasn't in college and Maria came from Harvard), and thinks that Maria didn't want to participate in the embarrasing challenges, photoshoots, etc.
    3. Darian was funny, had a positive attitude, gorgeous
    4. Was super close to Destiny in the beginning (they were even on the same bus at semifinals) and still loves her despite a couple of arguements (on being she took something from Destiny's purse and Destiny started freaking out about it)
    5. Loved Yvonne, sees her in many campaigns/ads, very positive
    6. Allyssa was hilarious and they would hang out together in Miami, she was also ambitious
    7. Brittany was amazing and the two went to PRIDE together in Los Angeles, also remembers her putting zit cream on
    8. Victoria had it tough on the show, and Kristin was concerned about the way the show handled Victoria's situation. Also admits that she was annoyed by her at times, but doesn't hate her. She even apologized to Victoria on the live (even though I don't think she was there)
    9. Nastasia was super nice to everyone
    10. Very proud of Leila and how successful she is today and regrets being mean to her
    11. Kiara played a motherly role in the house, and she loved Kiara's chili
    12. Of course she loves Laura, and thinks that she was misunderstood and wanted to be kind to everyone
  7. There was a long segment that I kinda blurred out on, but she explained how at the time she was still young and growing up and was dealing with family matters and that probably had to do with her actions on the show and treatment of others, but she has been self reflective of it and learned from her mistakes and really made a 180
  8. The Tyra suite drama regarding Leila feeling down when Laura chose Kristin (if i recall correctly sorry) wasn't that big of a deal to Kristin. Kristin also loved the dress, but it looked bad on her
  9. The "IM A REAL BITCH" arguement was Kristin's favorite clips of the show. It was so hilarious to her
  10. Kristin would still say "I can't pretend to laugh at your lame jokes" to Johnny Wujek and finds it hilarious. Kinda interesting how he didn't catch onto her sarcasm
  11. Regarding her blowup during deliberation in top 5: the people who she liked had already been eliminated, and the waiting room they were in was often quiet, so for Kiara to suddenly be overly excited made her feel annoyed and hurt that she wanted to tell them to STFU. She also blames how she was already over the competition and really wanted to hang out with Allyssa in the other villa. The only times Kristin cried were when Allyssa was eliminated and when Kristen herself was eliminated. Kristin would also never say "therefore I don't respect you" today. She was just in a bad place as she would say everything is stupid and her friends were eliminated and the judges didn't like her. When the show aired, she said it was a nightmare because of her edit
  12. Hasn't dated any celebrities but has DM'ed Chuck Bass (???)
  13. Was annoyed how fans thought Laura didn't deserve to win (especially with her storyline of her parents being famous) because Laura worked her butt off and worked really hard. People just wanted someone else to win and were dissappointed
  14. PSA Time: They had another segment where they talked about not sending hate messages to people's DM's based only off of a reality TV show
  15. The final runway was scary. Kristin was nervous and she hated the spooky theme. Post-show she doesn't really do runway shows
  16. Favorite photoshoot: cheerleader and her drinking the milk (though everyone around her was laughing and she got annoyed by them but the shot turned out amazing). Least favorite was the waterfall since the shower curtain dragged her down
  17. Modeling had just come to Kristin and she is trying to find a new career. She also mostly did commercials and beauty campaigns, and she's finally paying for college now
  18. Each contestant had some assigned person that would look out after them, and hers were really nice and the camera guys were cool too
  19. Kristin felt she didn't get any real guidence from Tyra at all. In a way she wish she had not gone on the show because it did not do anything for her post-show except a few comments on her Instagram
  20. Things she experienced in real world of modeling: shoes not fitting, clothes were not right for weatheseason (ie bikini in winter or sweaters in summer), model from head to toe
  21. She liked her makeover and everyone else's (loved Brittany's makeover), but thinks that the makeovers weren't implemented to make them look like models, but to upset the girls
  22. When Kristin joined the eliminated girls in Jamaica, it was fun because they had their own separate villa and could do whatever they wanted. At one point she drank a banana daiquiri (first time drinking) and she got so drunk and threw up in the house (I think this happened before she moved to the eliminated girls' villa)
  23. Hated the "bird" photoshoot (I assume it's the steampunk one???) cuz birds are unpredictable and onne time a pigeon flew into her as she was riding a bike
  24. Wish the judges had given more helpful advice
  25. The eliminated girls did their photoshoots at a different time than the other girls still in the competition
  26. What would she say to Tyra today: "How are you?" "How's life in quarrantine going" just catch-up with her
  27. They talked a lot about Rupaul's Drag Race and it moving to australia and stuff (im not familiar with the show im sorry fellow gays)
  28. Someone kept mentioning Marvin's OnlyFans page LMAO
Edit: she didn’t mention this, but victoria/Kiara have said on their chats that kristin got so much hate after the show that nobody was hiring her and that she had to change her name. Kiara even said Kristin got death threats

THE BIG INVADER ZIM SUPPORT GUIDE: Information on the books, show, movie, toys, collectibles, clothes, music, crew art, autographs, video game, convention, and theme park ride. v3.0

Hey, so this is to help you know what's available for official Invader ZIM stuff. There's a crash course on what to know about collecting the comics, and ways to get the original show. There's also a handy list of stores that have a license to sell official merch. I also am including currently available games, the ride that's under repair, the upcoming Invader CON experience at Fan Expo Boston, and other books.
A big reason I wrote this was not just to the benefit of collectors but (unfortunately) sometimes the best way to keep Invader ZIM alive is to vote with your wallet. Everything is broken down in headlines so feel free to skip past parts. Be sure to leave some encouragement, feedback, or criticisms below!~CB Johnny / Tallest Purple

Invader ZIM comics

_________________________________________

Are they new stories?

Yes! Some parts of the story in issue #1 (The Returnening Part 1) are reinterpreted in the Netflix animated special "Invader ZIM Enter The Florpus". Some issues are akin to "lost episodes" as they were ideas from before the original TV series was cancelled.

Are they canon?

Yes. Some argue that the comics' stories and/or Enter The Florpus take place in an alternate universe due to varying depictions of events first seen in Issue #1 however....
Guys, it's a show where horrible things happen and then it just "gets better" without an explanation. If you try to piece together a comedy series' timeline like it's Metal Gear Solid or The Legend of Zelda then I guarantee you'll get a headache.

How do I get them?

What you'll want to know is that there are two Invader ZIM comics series published by Oni Press.
They ALL have digital copies through Comixology, but lets talk about physical copies for the monthly series.
"Wait. What are variants?"
If you want individual issues, then contact any store that sells new comic books and collectibles. You can ask them questions about placing a subscription, getting variant issues, or seeing what they have for backlog. No need to be shy as comic book industry isn't doing so hot so if you worry it sounds like a dumb question then it's on them to be nice and understanding or they lose out on a new lifelong customer. ;)

Is the original series still sold on DVD?

Amazon has a license to sell and manufacture DVD-r discs of the show on demand... Honestly, the reviews look pretty bad. People are saying they don't play so well on their DVD players. There is also a DVD set compatible with any region DVD player. Keep in mind, folks, that this is not the Media Blasters DVD set with the commentary tracks, interviews, and other bonus features. That set is out of print and Media Blasters does not have an Invader ZIM licensing deal presently.
PS- While /InvaderZIM has zero tolerance for bootlegging the episodes, movie, or comics... You absolutely are allowed to share bonus feature content from the out of print DVDs. If Nickelodeon reads this entire guide and still has a problem with my policy on out of print content then they can go ahead and waste their money on a C&D. Coulda just released the footage on YouTube with that money.

Does the show still air on TV?

Yes! It is returning to Nicktoons for reruns starting Tuesday the 9th. Cable schedule so far suggests that it might be every Tuesday for roughly 11 episodes from mornings through afternoons.

Where can I digitally stream the show or movie?Does the show still air on TV?

Invader ZIM: Enter the Florpus is a Netflix exclusive.
The original Invader ZIM animated series is streamed on CBS All Access (soon to be renamed 'Paramount+') and Amazon Prime Video's NickHits

Where can I buy Invader ZIM: Enter The Florpus?

It's only available for streaming on Netflix. And their secret computer programs will note how many people watch it and how often. So treat it like GIR watching Intestines Of War. Yell "I'M GONNA WATCH IT AGAIN" and keep on supporting it.

Can't we get Florpus or the show released on blu-ray?

Never say never but keep in mind that Netflix rarely releases their exclusive content on home video. The show or movie would have to be as hugely successful as the likes of, say, Stranger Things for that to happen. I know it's tempting to make your own blu-ray but please understand that we don't know for sure if the movie's doing well enough because Netflix keeps their numbers a secret. Try to just watch it over and over if you can. That would make it easier to get Netflix to produce a sequel.
As for the original series, the picture format is SDTV 480i. So you might get a blu-ray disc but don't hold your breath for 1080p.

Where can I digitally buy episodes of the show to keep?

Prime Video, Google Play, Vudu, iTunes, and Microsoft Store(7806)(1246483)((6fc648e4d017b945d2ad9720b209bfe8)(81561)(2850890)(603eaf9759604a9c80adb36567fe60c3)())(6fc648e4d017b945d2ad9720b209bfe8)&irclickid=_tfxtxkf9a0kftgjfkk0sohzn1n2xsqb91pwg01gi00&activetab=pivot:overviewtab).

What if it's pulled from any of those services?

ReelGood and JustWatch are services designed to help you find your favorite shows online. Sometimes they're a little behind on information if a service is newer. So be nice! They're doing their best.

How do I get the new Invader ZIM action figures?!

Contact your local stores (try comicshoplocator.com!) and inquire about pre orders.
Here's photos of the toys.
There is also an Invader ZIM diorama slated for Summer.
Keep in mind that it's a safe assumption that the success of the figures we've seen would lead to figures that we have NOT seen.
Tip: ask major brand vendors like Hot Topic if they could get '20th Anniversary Edition' figures. I want to see what happens if enough fans ask. ;)

Are there Invader ZIM books?

Yes. There's an official one The Art of Invader ZIM by Chris McDonnell. Published by Abrams. There's new interviews and never before seen production art.
There's also a pretty-stinkin-majestic near official but not officially official one (my words, not theirs). The Medium-Sized Book of ZIM Scripts Vol. 1: Pigs 'n' Waffles The Stories and the Stories Behind the Stories of Your Favorite Invader by Eric Trueheart. Eric is hilarious and he gives an excellently transparent, yet kindly expressed, perspective on the ups and downs of working on the show. Don't sleep on this one. See if he'll sign it for you. <3
I'm seeing trivia books and coloring books on Barnes & Noble but I cannot speak to the quality. They have the official trademarked Invader ZIM logo- and armchair geek lawyers know that trademarks are heavily guarded unlike regular copyrighted intellectual property. If anyone buys one, lemme know more about them. __________________________________________________________________________________________

What about video games?

Invader ZIM characters have been featured in various 3rd party developer video games where Nicktoons have crossover adventures or party games such as go-karts and baseball. Presently, the only one that isn't out of print is Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix.
Here's a game by Nick Australia called Invader Zim - The DOOM Game by Art of Play. It's in HTML5 so you can play it on your computer web browser. If you live in Australia or New Zealand then you should be able to also play it on your smart devices as an app.

Is there an Invader ZIM soundtrack?!

Yes. Well. Not exactly. There was a special release of limited tracks in the original DVD bonus set. There was an unofficial limited released of the soundtrack and the ZIM-phony broadcast, too.
What you can do is check out Kevin Manthei's YouTube page. He has uploaded both the entire selections from the Enter the Florpus soundtrack as well as episode suites for FREE.

UPCOMING INVADER ZIM EXPERIENCES!

Will InvaderCON ever happen again?

Yes, but in a different way from the three events they've had before. There were plans for InvaderCON events within a larger convention called Fan Expo Boston. The idea was that those who were going for InvaderCON programming, they could buy special passes that grant them access to even more Invader ZIM experiences or stuff than if one was to attend as a regular Fan Expo Boston attendee. It was slated for 2020, however, the pandemic has delayed plans. Keep an eye on InvaderCON's Twitter.
Please note: nothing is a guarantee this year for any conventions. I know, I know. It sucks. Be aware that convention organizers have contractual obligations to the venue and are therefore at their mercy (or local government) to shut down without going out of business. The closer we get to August, the closer we'll know where the world stands with the COVID vaccine and the viral spread. I'm hoping that some sort of online experience could take place as a back up. It's a big reason I'm putting together a list of ZIM crew, the world deserves to have a fun little 'artist alley' experience from the comfort of their seats after enjoying a few Zoom panels. But I don't work for Green Mustard soooooo... Just an idea

There's going to be an Invader ZIM amusement park ride?!

There was an Invader ZIM themed version of the Flip Zone ride (originally developed by Amusement Products).
It's called Invader ZIM's Flip 'N' Spin... OF DOOM and it had been in operation briefly at Nickelodeon Universe, an indoor amusement park at the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, NJ.
When the park re-opened after pandemic lockdowns, the ride had been taken down and set aside for repairs. An American Dream Guest Services staff member was gracious enough to give an honest, clear, and optimistic answer. They clearly want this to succeed!
"We do hope to have it open again - but have had some challenges with the reliability as it is a prototype ride. We are working with the manufacturer on bringing it back online. With no firm date, we have decided to remove it from our advertising and delist it. When it is ready to reopen we will add it back online. I know this likely isn't the answer you want to hear - but we want to be upfront with you on when it could resume. Hopefully sooner than later.
(also, can we give a round of applause to them for being honest yet optimistic and forward thinking? I seriously think he deserves a raise. They could have easily ignored us or given a safe non-answer. I'm deeply impressed.)
In the meantime, you can still see some Invader ZIM lovin' at the park when going on the Nickelodeon Skyline Scream. GIR overlooks the rider queue after, uhh, engaging in some (kinda out-of-character) mischief while ZIM, Spongebob, and other Nicktoons await you at the top of the tower.
This is actually the second time that ZIM has made a cameo for an amusement park ride. He was also depicted in the on-ride footage for Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast at Universal Studios

I can't afford these things or they aren't available in my country. What do you suggest I do?

Economically, lots of folks are having a hard time. Perhaps paypal's payment plans could help? I really didn't want to drop 50 bucks on stuff so I am paying back Paypal ten bucks or so a week.
If you live outside of the states then you might need to arrange something with a U.S resident. It's tempting to offer for the first 3 people who ask, but guys, I'm an exhausted and busy. Don't expect me to be reliable or timely.

Is there any other way I can help without buying stuff?

Spread word on social media: retweet, reblog, repost announcements from people who make and sell good ZIM stuff. Share this post for other fans (and let me know, for encouragement's sake). Contact vendors and express interest that you'd want ZIM stuff made for the 20th Anniversary.

Can't you help me bootleg the show, movie, or comics?

No, absolutely not. Look, I'm not here to make money for Nick. This is a 'vote with your wallet' guide. So while I understand that money and/or geographical obstacles make things hard for printed physical stuff but you still have digital releases at very least... Please do NOT post episodes and issues for free for strangers to experience en masse. You're making this harder for everyone else.
Morally, I stop caring once the item is out of print: bonus features from the original DVD sets for instance.

Will you list stuff that is not licensed?

If they worked on Invader ZIM, yes. Or if it's professionals looking to get ZIM stuff greenlit, yes.
In fact, I've been putting together a Google Sheet of crew members on the show, books, and film for you to support their craft: some do commissions, some sell autographed ZIM comics, and some have ZIM art or behind scenes content. .... the sheet is coming soon. When I can get to it. Once again, I'm kinda a busy guy.

I saw some stuff on Amazon that might not be licensed. How do I know if it is?

Amazon.com's Invader ZIM selection requires a bit of caution
Keep in mind I have zero problem with unlicensed merchandise sold in good faith
Here are the reasonable indicators that you're getting something authentic.

What if I buy something that isn't licensed? Is that okay?

Okay enough FAQ... Give us that sweet sweet list of Invader ZIM vendors so we can GIVE OUR URTH MONIES TO ZIM!!

Of course! First, here's some of the crew's stuff

Honestly, everything a crew member works on is worthy of a fan's support. I'm going to link to those who are selling some ZIM stuff (prints, autographs, etc), OR do commissioned requests, OR make convention appearances. Their success does not get brought to the attention of Nick's number crunching service drones but your support of the ZIM staff is still a worthy cause. Show up for the ZIM stuff, and stay for the rest of the cool stuff they work on!
It bears repeating that Eric Truehart's book THE MEDIUM-SIZED BOOK OF ZIM SCRIPTS VOL. 1: PIGS 'N' WAFFLES - THE STORIES AND THE STORIES BEHIND THE STORIES OF YOUR FAVORITE INVADER is available in paperback and digital download.
Jhonen has plenty of stuff based on JtHM, Squee, and whatnot. Don't forget the "Grinning Space Jerk" mask and the 'bowels will release' shirt inspired by ZIM and Florpus.
Vol. 7 of the Invader ZIM comic signed by K.C. Green is sold here
This list will expand but for now we've got delightful stuff from:Rikki & Tavisha Simons
Aaron Alexovich
Richard Horvitz (he also does voice acting workshops!)
____________________________________________________________
Outside of Amazon's stock there's also...................
Amazon.com (see previous sections on how to avoid buying unlicensed goods)
Hot Topic, of course! They have been the most prominent, longest running, and most loyal of vendors in ZIM's twenty year history. Also, I have experienced first hand that they take polite, constructive, courteous, forward thinking feedback into consideration such as in regards to character depictions, design trends, available clothing types, etc... Please be chill if you fill out those feedback forms. I can't emphasize enough to be courteous. Don't let me regret telling you that.
Zen Monkey Studios is a small company that sells amazing Invader ZIM enamel pins. My favorites are the ones based on Florpus and Dark Harvest.
Diamond Select Toys is talked about earlier. Keep your eyes on them.
Zavvi UK & Forbidden Planet sell stuff overseas
Dumbgood recently acquired a merch license. There's designs featuring ZIM and robot GIR. Some argue that these design are a little bit on the pricier side due to manufacturing costs and quality of fabric.
Funko's catalog of Invader ZIM Pop Figures are out of print but keep an eye out for any limited time exclusives especially during events like San Diego Comic Con.
The Nick Box had a GIR plush in their fall edition. There could be Invader ZIM stuff again in the future. Never a guarantee. If you're not a big Nicktoons fan then you might want to pass on this.
Nickelodeon Universe's online shop get the most results when you search 'ZIM' and 'GIR' together
Newbury Comics has stuff. Socks as of this writing. Products subject to change.
Aquarius has a puzzle and playing card set.
Seven Times Six has a shirt license.
FOCO's Eekeez figures include some ZIM and GIR
IDW Games has an Invader ZIM dice game and a Nickelodeon board game featuring Invader ZIM.
My Party Shirt has playing cards.
Ikon Collectables has the lasercut keychains, some resold Funko in stock and other collectibles.
Vision Toys is an overseas vendor for the 3D lasercut keychains.
Giant Kids World sells the Invader ZIM lip gloss made by Boston America.
Invader ZIM Rock 'Em Socks
TheMysteryShack has the Lootcrate DX Enamel Pins among other neat things previously listed.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days - A misunderstood masterpiece, written review.

Dog Days, Follows the perspective of self medicated, schizophrenic, psychopath James Seth Lynch (or Lynch for short) and ex-mercenary Adam Kane Marcus (or Kane for short) and their attempt at a ‘Last Job’ so they can finally settle down and get out of the game for good. Lynch has been working for a criminal businessman who goes by the name Glazer, since the events of the previous game. Glazer has a big arms deal planned that will pay enough to put Lynch into retirement. To aid the deal Lynch calls Kane knowing his expertise will more than help if things go south.
It’s easy to call Kane and Lynchs’ story a generic one but people often overlook it and fail to see what makes it brilliant. IGN Australia called the game ‘One of the most atmospheric and intense shooters of 2010’ and that is mainly down to it’s story. The game has these cinematic, movie moments that never feel over the top but intense! The game has many moments like this that keep you on the edge of your seat, you feel powerful and ready to take on the next level and absolutely obliterate anyone or anything that stands in your way. It’s this kind of extreme and intense action that many shooters today lack and it’s what makes Kane and Lynch so unique and fun to this day! Additionally, the whole visual representation of the game and sounds only make it feel that much more real! But more on that later.
Characters in Dog Days are very well thought out and are brilliant representations of the ghastly, dark underground they are a part of. Fueled by hate, anger and dreadful pasts these characters are the epitome of greed and what we would define as a genuinely bad person. It’s rare in a game we get to play as the anti hero as we are normally saving the day or killing for a good. In Dog Days you play as two inhumane people who kill to benefit nobody, not even themselves and take lives without a second thought. Although, on the outside we see these two murderous psychopaths on a non stop killing spree we sometimes see a more ‘Human’ side to them. Like when Lynch breaks down about Xuis’ death in the TV store. Kane stands up and expresses the same form of regret for the events of the past two days and how he feels he needs this for the sake of him and his daughters relationship and encourages him to keep fighting. I wish we had more moments like this in the game as it makes us feel sorry for Kane and Lynch when we really shouldn't and many games fail to create this same feeling for such bad characters.
Guns in Dog Days is another area where the devs tried to innovate and I commend them for this. The recoil on these guns is really realistic and satisfying to master. Not only does this add a whole new level of intensity to gunfights especially in higher difficulty levels but it also adds a level strategy to other areas such as multiplayer, but that’s a topic for later. Additionally, change made from the previous game is that there is now a dedicated button for taking cover and it works really well. Cover animations are smooth and traversing in and out of cover also feels really good. The game lacks a close quarters combat system and instead replaces it with ‘Taking A Human Shield’ which also looks awesome and is more than enough to keep me more than satisfied. Furthermore, dog days level design is narrow and very linear but it plays this as one of it’s strengths keeping gun fights action packed, up in your face and extremely intense! These normally take place in ally ways and market places and are super fun to run and gun your way through.
BUT..where Dog Days truly shines is in its bold visual style
Dog Days is presented as though it’s a crappy college documentary being filmed on your mum's old handycam she used for home videos. The result? A unique, innovative, aesthetic and visually pleasing art style that never fails to take my breath away. Neon lights are thrown on top of humongous skyscrapers that illuminate the night sky and loom above the player, almost belittling them. You’re stuck in the vile slums of Shanghai run by wannabe psycho gangstas and overshadowed by big money hungry corporations and corrupt government officials like shangsi himself. Despite this filthy setting Dog Days still manages to look absolutely beautiful in run down, abandoned industrial areas and back alleyways in poverty stricken areas. High attention to detail brings the game world to life and makes you feel as though you really are in Shanghai, from washing lines hanging peoples clothing on the buildings above to knock off phones and laptops in breakable display cases in small market places. Shanghai really feels inhabited and it’s the small details like this that really immerse the player and draw them into this gorgeous looking game even by today's standards.
Another incredibly fun and innovative feature that Dog Days handycam style brings is the ‘Shaky Cam’ YouTubers such as DX and many reviewers have hated on this feature and made many complaints. While this feature seems bizarre it only increases how much this game feels like it's got that crappy handycam artstyle going for it. It really makes me feel as though I am chasing Brady in the opening sequence or charging towards cover. It’s a really good feature that I commend IO for doing and it’s such a shame that people decided it was rubbish instead of trying to enjoy it. Although, one thing DX forgot to mention is that this feature can be switched off via the settings menu. People often give out false information about this game and miss features such as that, making the game seem like an ugly mess.
Cutscenes also stay true to this ‘Shaky Cam’ style although there is some criticism due. While the cutscenes still look gorgeous and carry over those small details and aesthetics mentioned earlier there's criticism due here. The camera can be constantly shaking in some cutscenes and it's hard to really focus on one specific detail when the camera is swinging all over the place in certain scenes. Although, I find that to be a minor annoyance that only occurs from time to time more than a constant head baninging issue. With that criticism out the way cutscenes do feel natural and still help bring Shanghai to life with the camera man walking behind Kane and Lynch as they go past people leaving their homes or closing their stores.
Another cool thing the game does is during its loading screens. Loading screens are set up like mini cutscenes with small pictures almost acting like frames from a video popping up all over the place with pictures of the level and cool screenshots. Not to mention it sets the stage for the level with phone calls normally from Lynch trying to contact Xui or speaking to Glazer. They're really interesting and fun to listen to and it's a great way to introduce a player to the level or catch them up with the story.
A quick note to, the OST in this game is amazing. The smooth, soothing music and upbeat pop playing from mono radios scattered accross levels really brings Shanghai to life and I listen to this OST from home or when I'm out, not just while I'm playing the game.
Dog Days has a small selection of multiplayer games you can play but it more than makes up for it with how fun it is. Online matches are fast paced, intense and super fun! Undercover Cop is my personal favourite as you don't know who, when and how somebody might try to complete their mission and kill everybody. You keep your distance and try to survive and it only gets even more fun if somebody turns and a massive shootout goes down!
Honestly, I cant tell you how many hours I've spent playing this on 360, PS3 and now PC. It's silly how it's become a trend to hate on such an amazing game with such an amazing community and I wish we could see a follow up. 10/10 would recommend anytime to anyone

I am 23 years old, make $46,000, live in Washington, DC and work as an Admissions Officer.

There’s a lot of privilege baked into what I lay out in this Money Diary through my education and upbringing. I still feel like a novice concerning personal finance but I know I am doing (probably more than) alright. The biggest thing that money does for me is give me peace of mind, and I am very grateful for that.
Section One: Assets and Debt
I started full-time employment in November 2019, so this represents about a year of savings. The Roth IRA was funded in one go when I started getting serious about knowing where my money is and what it’s doing this summer. I have two 403(b)s because I switched brokerages from TIAA to Vanguard; I can’t combine them until I leave this position. My initial contribution was a flat 3%, then I bumped it up to 6%, and more recently, I’ve been contributing $1200 a paycheck, which I will continue through the end of the year, when I’ll readjust down to $800 or so. Our match was paused this summer before I was eligible for it, and it remains paused until Summer 2021.

I have a taxable brokerage account separate from my retirement accounts where I am saving for a down payment on a house. I seeded it with $3k of my own savings and transferred all the assets from a matured UTMA account from my great-uncle (which was being actively managed by my parents’ financial planner until I took control of it this summer). The UTMA was part of how I paid for college, and the remaining $7,000 or so has been rolled into this account. I went back and forth between a HYSA and brokerage for this pot of money, and ultimately decided to keep the money invested in a Target Date Fund (2025) because I don’t plan to purchase a house for another ten years or so (the utility of this is the Target Date Fund automatically creates a glide path of investment allocation). I am still working on selling off the funds the financial planner had me invested in as they mature to a year cost-basis to reinvest in the Target Date Fund.

I have a catch-all savings account, a temporary savings account for my 2021 Roth IRA (I know I ought to just invest it now, but this is a psychological choice for me, down to leaving a buffer for the interest it’ll earn before I invest it), and then a HYSA for my emergency fund and savings for a car (maybe? I’ve been courting the idea of my next job being at a university that is not in a city with great public transit, so this is contingent on that, I don’t really want the responsibility of a car). Because I am shoveling money into my retirement accounts right now, I’m not making contributions to my HYSA, but they will pick up again in January.

I used to keep my checking account at $1k plus my rent, and then siphon off money to my catch-all savings account whenever I got paid. But since I’ve been tracking my money a little better, I move my monthly budget of $1300 into my checking account at the beginning of the month, and then all paychecks immediately get transferred to my catch-all savings.

My health insurance plan makes me eligible for an HSA and I get up to a $750 match every year as a single contributor. Right now I deposit $31.25 each paycheck and my employer matches the entire amount. I’ve already used some of the funds I saved earlier this year.

I pay this off every month and always have. This represents the groceries I bought in this diary, groceries two weeks ago, and ordering dinner for my boyfriend and myself earlier in the month.

This is almost always at a zero balance. I use it to accept rewards from the occasional survey, pay for certain things online, and settle up utility and rent payments with my roommates. It is connected to my credit card and my checking account.

I graduated with a BA in Education Studies and Cognitive Science in May 2019. While I graduated with loans totalling about $16,000, I had the savings on hand to pay them off because I basically didn’t spend money in college and worked every semester but one, plus every summer. I waited until I had secured full-time employment before paying it off before they left deferment; the loans were federal with two different servicers.
Besides loans, I received need-based aid from my school, I applied for and won outside scholarships, withdrew funds from my UTMA account, and my parents paid some out-of-pocket as well.
~~~~~~~~~~
Was there an expectation that you would pursue higher education? Yes, I am a third-generation college graduate (both my parents, and all of my grandparents, attended college, and some of them have professional and graduate degrees). I always assumed I would go to a state school to save on college costs, but my parents gave me the go-ahead to look beyond that because they understood I would earn scholarships and our family would be eligible for aid. I ended up at an Ivy League school, which I never thought was in my future before my senior year of high school.
Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have about money? Did your parents educate you about finances? We had sporadic conversations that were decidedly educational - I remember my parents getting my siblings and me lockboxes and ledger books instead of piggy banks, taking us to the credit union to open accounts, and hearing kernels of advice. Mostly, I learned by following their habits - how to shop for groceries, how to shop for clothes, how to choose a place to rent, etc. Up until recently, my parents’ financial advisor was also my advisor, and I checked in with him when I had something big going on, like paying for college and choosing benefits at my first professional job.
What was your first job and why did you get it? My first W-2 job was as an RA in college. We were paid with a stipend, but room and board were not covered. I got it because my mom had been an RA in college, and I thought I would be a natural at it being the eldest child of six. Prior to that, I babysat, participated in research studies, and flipped furniture and textbooks, but in high school my parents didn’t want me to have a job so I could focus on school.
Did you worry about money growing up? I understood that money needed to be conserved from my parents’ habits, but I didn’t worry about my personal money or our family’s financial situation. I have been a saver since I was a kid, so it never really occurred to me to spend my birthday money, for instance. In retrospect, I can point to particular times of financial anxiety from my parents (when selling a house, during the Great Recession, when I had to eat school lunch since it was free), but I wasn’t paying so close attention at the time.
At what age did you become financially responsible for yourself and do you have a financial safety net? I was 22 when I finally moved out of my parents’ house for my first full-time position, after graduating from college, working a seasonal job for the summer, and then moving back home. That was the age when I first started paying rent and bills. As far as a safety net, I have an emergency fund and my investments; I also have my nuclear family, a large extended family who I could crash with, some friends in various cities, and untapped education benefits from the government.
Do you or have you ever received passive or inherited income? All the passive income from my investments is getting reinvested - it doesn’t amount to much right now. I inherited the money in my old UTMA account mentioned before. My parents each have a will, but I’ve not been told any specifics. All my grandparents are still alive and I don’t know the status of their estates. Because I have many siblings and cousins, and I am “on my feet” compared to them by virtue of being older, I have low expectations of any future inheritance, and I anticipate some of it will be messier than it is worth.
Section Two: Income
Income Progression: I've been working in my field for 1 year next month. My starting salary was $46,000 and we did not get a COL raise this year due to the pandemic. Although the job was listed with a salary and I have full benefits, I am actually paid hourly, so if I work after-hours, I get paid overtime.
In college, I worked six semesters as an RA (paid on a stipend), one semester as a college prep tutor manager for a non-profit (also a stipend), one summer as a summer camp counselor (paid hourly, but they rationed who could take overtime), and 3 summers as an RA for a pre-college program (paid hourly with generous overtime, also got room and board). Since these were all paid jobs, I consider them relevant work experience for my career in higher education.
Main Job Monthly Take Home: $648
As you can see in the table below, I am currently contributing a high pre-tax amount toward retirement. When I assessed my financial situation earlier this year, I decided I was too cash-heavy and wanted to be more invested, so I increased my contribution and it automatically invests with my paycheck. This is temporary, since I supplement my income with my savings to support my expenses right now, and will end after December. I took these numbers from my paystub and multiplied, so they may not quite add up.
Amount
Gross pay $3,537.60
HSA contribution -$62.50
Health insurance -$27.20
Voluntary contribution -$2,400
Taxes -$386.80
Long term disability -$12.46
Net pay $648.62
Side Gig Monthly Take Home: $0
I’ve been looking into reading applications as a part-time job at another school, but haven’t bit the bullet on that one yet. I got $10 from filling out a survey last month, but that’s it for money outside of my job.
Other Monthly Income: $0
Most of the financial out-patient care I received from my parents has pretty much ended. They used to pitch in for the gap between my scholarships and tuition in college, and they would pay for my air travel to and from college, but now I pay for my own travel. The only thing that remains is that I am on their phone plan and use their Netflix and Disney+. We recently had a conversation about this, and I’ll be paying them $20 a month for all this going forward (I know that my line only costs $10, so I’m not getting a parental discount).
Section Three: Expenses
Rent: $875/month - I have the smallest room in my apartment, which is a 3 bed, 1 bath I share with two other women. When I went into the office, I was able to walk to work.
Renters insurance: $140.60/year - Through USAA. I paid through December 2021 and will end this policy then, since I’ll be covered under my parents’ policy when I move home (we checked, I was prepared to continue this coverage).
Car insurance: $19.57/month - Through USAA. This is a non-owners policy, since I don’t have a car but wanted to maintain coverage.
Electric: varies from $25 to $50 a month - I pay one of my roommates for my portion.
Wifi: $28/month - I pay one of my roommates for my portion.
Cellphone plus Subscriptions (Netflix and Disney+): $20/month - Paid to my parents.
Groceries: $100-$150/month - I prefer to shop at Aldi, but with the pandemic, I sometimes do my weekly shop at the Giant that is much closer. This includes hygiene and cleaning products.
Eating out: $60-$80/month - I don’t much like eating out at restaurants. Right now this is basically a take-out budget; if I wasn’t dating, this would be more like $30/month, but I like the opportunity to try new food/have something to look forward to/be lazy with my boyfriend.
Clothing, misc.: I might thrift clothes or buy undergarments or shoes new once a month, if that. I don’t keep a hard budget for this type of category, but I have a mental ceiling of $1300 for all outgoing cash flow each month. I haven’t gone over (except for paying off my loans from savings) since moving out on my own. Although the accounting is a little wonky right now, this method allowed for an average savings rate just under 50% of my take-home pay before I messed around with my retirement contributions. It will be neat to figure out my overall savings rate at the end of the year, and I project it to be 60%.
~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve been dating my boyfriend for ten months and we’re pretty easy-going about money between us. We’re both pretty frugal and don’t normally split bills; he’ll pay for one thing, I’ll pay for the next. If there’s something one of us wants to do and bring the other along, the originator of the idea will cover the cost. Early on I asked if he wanted me to keep a spreadsheet or use an app to split costs, but our method hasn’t caused any problems.
I did live with him (he lives alone) for about five months from the beginning of the pandemic - during that time I still had to pay rent and utilities at my apartment, so my financial contribution at his place was getting groceries for us both every other week (where he would go on the alternating weeks). Since moving out, I see him for dinner on Wednesdays and then the weekends; I’ll cook or order in on Wednesdays, and always try to contribute to the weekend by baking or bringing takeout with me.

Day 1, Thursday, October 8, 2020

7:29am: I’m up a minute before my alarm like the cosmos has something to tell me. My arms are sore from carrying bags of clothing from a women’s clothing round-robin I picked up two days ago. Back to sleep.
8:19am: And we’re awake again. My ‘alarm’ is two hours of NPR so I hear snippets of the VP debate last night. I raise the blinds to my window (I’ve been trying to look outside before I look at a screen lately). Grab my phone and browse reddit, text my boyfriend good morning.
9:06am: Whoops, better make breakfast before starting work. Two slices of sprouted bread in the toaster oven, topped with peanut butter and strawberry jam, alongside two mandarin oranges and my multivitamin. That was the last of my bread, so I update my pantry spreadsheet.
9:15am: Open my work email, nothing pressing for now. No meetings on my schedule either. I open up our application portal and start reading applications - it takes me about half an hour to check today’s batch for completeness.
10:03am: Break to read some news and check my local Buy-Nothing group (where the round-robin originated). See an article about mail-in ballot tracking which reminds me to check on mine, which I mailed on Sunday. It arrived yesterday, and I text my family group chat to celebrate. I can hear my roommates are both awake watching some sort of Halloween baking show.
10:46am: Return to working. Reading more applications, then email. First I address anything brand new, then I systematically attack my 75 email backlog by searching for certain keywords and senders that are more urgent.
11:07am: Take my dishes to the kitchen and refill my water glass.
11:32am: I switch gears with emails. My admissions pet peeve: when applicants misspell my name.
12:02pm: We’re at 63 emails now. I get dressed and make my bed.
12:22pm: Lunch is ravioli with marinara sauce and white beans, carrot sticks, and a slice of fresh mozzarella cut into slices. Work has an optional lunch on Zoom on Thursdays - I log in and no one is there so I end up calling one of my sisters instead.
1:00pm: Still talking with my sister but my on-call shift for work has begun (prospective students can call our office with questions), so I log in in the background.
1:53pm: Wow, we really had a lot to catch up on. School for her, work for me. Back to work.
3:00pm: And my phone shift is over - no calls today. It seems that people have generally forgotten about calling during the several months we didn’t have an active phone line when we started teleworking. I’ve been redditting and doing work brainstorming through this all.
3:27pm: Back to applications. Typically I only do them once a day, but I like the structured checking-off, so I tackle the few that are in my box. What can I say, I love giving the stamp of a complete application so it can go on to further review (I don’t provide an opinion for the admissions decision) - maybe we’ll admit them... it all starts here!
4:43pm: Stumbled upon an application from someone I know - always a nice surprise.
5:24pm: Glance at the clock since my working has transitioned to not really working. Down to 56 emails. I go down a rabbit-hole researching one of today’s recommenders - sometimes they are really interesting people!
5:48pm: Heat up dinner - roasted turkey breast and brussels sprouts I have in the fridge. I compare dinners with my boyfriend over text and settle into some dinner YouTube and two more mandarin oranges.
7:09pm: I’m cooing over the panda update at the National Zoo and decide to bake some biscuits. Went a little overboard on my normal Greek yogurt plus Bisquick recipe, adding some vanilla oat milk and pumpkin pie spice for a dessert feel. They are fragrant and tender.
7:32pm: I clean up the kitchen and start the dishwasher.
9:38pm: I run a small bath and use my double-edge safety razor for the first time on my legs. Only three nicks, none of them major, so I feel pretty accomplished.
10:28pm: Chit-chat with my roommates after unloading the dishwasher.
12:15pm: Get ready for bed. I don’t fall asleep until later but my sleep habits are a topic for another time.

Day 2, Friday, October 9, 2020

8:09am: Wake up, open the blinds, and check the weather. Pulled my bed together, turned off the radio, and stuck my finger in my pilea plant. In the kitchen, I pop the last of a berry cobbler in the microwave for breakfast and fill a dish with water to place the pilea in.
8:27am: I open up my work email to see what’s new. Inbox at 64. Most of the emails are applicants wanting to know the status of their application and prospective students wanting to schedule appointments, which I decline.
9:02: I pull the pilea out of the water. Emails are down to 57. Take my breakfast dish and the excess water to the kitchen.
9:05am: Time to file applications. I turn on Spotify for some background noise.
9:42am: Done, so I check in on reddit, then get dressed and get back to work.
11:04am: Pause working to start some pizza dough for calzones to take hiking this weekend. I get distracted by a text from one of my roommates that she doesn’t feel well. She explains the precautions she’s taking. At least kneading is therapeutic.
Noonish: Catching up on personal email as the dough rises.
1:30ish: Calzones are now doing their second rise assembled. Lunch is spaetzle with roasted turkey, white beans, mozzarella, and marinara sauce.
2pm: I message the next person in my clothing round robin since I’ve made my choices of what to keep and what to give away. She can pick up tonight so I tidy the bags. Calzones go in the oven.
2:30pm: Calzones out of the oven to cool.
3:03pm: Remember it’s payday; move my whole paycheck into savings ($373.68, a little higher than normal because I worked overtime last week).
4pm: I have some raisins as a snack, filling a dish with water for my succulent to soak in. I start typing up my Money Diary and enter my hours for work.
4:40pm: I move the clothes down to the curb and keep watch over them, since I’ve had items I’ve set out for people taken before. It’s an easy misunderstanding, so I don’t get mad about it, but it’s disappointing for the person who the items are intended for, so now I watch. She arrives and I help her load her car. Thank goodness that is done; it really was a ton of clothes.
5:02pm: The calzones have cooled so I pack them into the bread bag from the loaf I finished yesterday. I sit back down to close my tabs from the day on my computer. Email is at 58. Time to pack for the weekend!
5:29pm: I write up a cutesy to-do list for the weekend of activities for the weekend. It includes catching up on shows we watch together and things to do on our hike.
6:05pm: I leave my apartment and hop on the metro (my card is still loaded from February, this is only my second time on the metro since then). My boyfriend has me meet him by a Chinese restaurant, where he picks up our order. He pays; the bill is $21.18.
7pm: We walk back to his place. Wash our hands, eat dinner on the couch. We catch up on our days and he puts a CD in the stereo.
9:30pm: We snuggle up with a blanket to watch this week’s Great British Bake Off. In the middle we snack on some challah and lox.
10:30pm: By the end of the episode, I’m practically nodding off, so we head to bed.

Day 3, Saturday, October 10, 2020

7:18am: I wake up and quietly slip out of bed. Get a drink of water and plug in my phone since I neglected that last night. Crawl back into bed since it is too early for a weekend.
8:50am: We’re both awake now, so we muster ourselves out of bed. He makes coffee for himself and then brings it and some more challah and lox to the couch for breakfast.
10:40am or so: We’re dressed, bags packed, water bottles filled, and out the door.
11:30am or so: Car is parked. The drive only took about 35 minutes but the first parking area was full, so it was slow-going to find the other parking area. We hike in bursts on the trail, stopping to spy on birds with binoculars, split a calzone, munch on carrot sticks, or climb down to the river bank to sit and enjoy the outdoors. The ‘destination’ of this hike is a waterfall area, but it is more crowded than the trail so we don’t linger for very long.
4:30pm: Back at the car to drive home.
5:20pm: Home! We change clothes and settle in on the couch.
5:40pm: One of my favorite series in sheltering at home, Secrets of the Zoo, has delivered a new spinoff at the Taronga Zoo in Australia. We’ve watched all the original seasons already, so we dig into this new one together.
6:15pm: My boyfriend makes dinner - pasta with pesto and ricotta cheese.
7:15pm: Switching gears to set up the projector so we can watch Botched on the big screen. We’re finishing up the most recent season. Ice cream ensues.
11:20pm: Finishing an episode just in time to catch SNL. Sometimes we don’t stay up late enough, but tonight we triumph!
1:15am: SNL is over, we’ve brushed our teeth, and we crawl into bed.

Day 4, Sunday, October 11, 2020

9:50am: We’ve both been awake on-and-off, and so concur that it is time to start the day.
10:15am: I turn on more of Secrets of the Zoo on the projector. My boyfriend brings over challah and lox to munch on, and I check off items from our weekend list.
11:40am: Two episodes later, and it’s about time for me to pack up and leave. I get dressed and gather my belongings, and we say goodbye until Wednesday.
12:28pm: I arrive home from my walk, wash up, rotate my pilea plant, and catch up writing Money Diary entries, news from the weekend, and some miscellaneous reddit.
2pm: Pour out some applesauce and sit down to write out my meal plan and grocery list and eyeball the cost of my list. Planning to spend about $30 for my groceries for the week.
2:50pm: Copy my list on paper from my pantry spreadsheet. Check the weather and suit up for rain, pack my backpack, and we’re off to the grocery store!
4:04pm: I arrive at Aldi. It drizzled the whole walk here, but I like the chance to stretch my legs. Bonus from the rain: Very few people are out walking.
4:35pm: Done shopping; I could spend forever at Aldi. I get in line to check out. As I’m waiting, I do mental math and guess I spent $28 for a dozen eggs, a bulk container of whole milk plain greek yogurt, baby bella mushrooms, a dark chocolate bar, a loaf of sprouted bread, a large can of crushed tomatoes, a bag of gala apples, two acorn squash, about 2.5 lbs of red grapes, a package of salted butter, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, and two packages of fresh pumpkin ravioli. The final bill is $27.77, so I was a great estimator today!
4:48pm: I depart Aldi and walk back home. The last ten minutes of my walk, the rain starts to pick up.
5:45pm: Made it home, a little damp. I wash up and put away the food. I pull out two pumpkin cookies and smear some peanut butter on them for a snack.
5:55pm: I sit down to read over some supplemental essays for college applications for one of my sisters. Normally I leave comments or edit as I go, but I think she’s hit the right voice today so I just text her that I don’t have any edits.
7pm: Head to the kitchen to roast the acorn squash for this week’s lunches and make dinner for tonight - eggs on top of toast, with olives and pickled onions, alongside some grapes, and a small turkey and mozzarella quesadilla.
8pm: I put my dinner dishes away and pull the squash out of the oven. I settle in to internet browsing and a few squares of dark chocolate for the evening, realizing and then coming to peace with the fact that I am now a Money Diaries cliche.
10:55pm: Showering, getting into pajamas, and tidying up my room. The cooled acorn squash goes into the fridge.
Midnight or so: in bed after some YouTube and writing the intro to this Money Diary.
Total Spend: $27.77

Day 5, Monday, October 12, 2020

7:35am: I wake up to the radio and open the window. It is grey outside and looks like it’ll be cloudy and rainy all day. I get out of bed, straighten the duvet and pillows, and head to the bathroom. Back in my room, I read the news, check reddit, and text my boyfriend good morning.
8:25am: Check my work email. We’re back up to 62. I knock out the easy ones that came in over the weekend (down to 59) and then go make breakfast (two fried eggs with baby bella mushrooms on toast topped with pickled onions and everything bagel seasoning, red grapes, my multivitamin and water).
8:55am: Sit down on the couch in the living room to start the work day by reading applications. Mondays typically have a larger stack to work through because people work on and submit applications more frequently on the weekends. I turn on Spotify tuned to my Daily Drive with news and music very quietly, since I haven’t seen either of my roommates yet this morning.
10am: I head back to my desk in my room so I can log in for a phone shift. Still reading applications.
12:05pm: Realize my phone shift is over, so I log out of that system. I answered one call early on and it was radio silence from there. I am still reading applications, but the end is in sight.
12:30pm: Done reading applications. Time to prepare lunch. I reheat half an acorn squash on the broil function of the toaster oven, and microwave some white beans and tomato sauce I had in the fridge, and top it all with feta cheese. To be honest, I had wanted to get spaghetti squash at the grocery yesterday, but this is so good with acorn squash as the centerpiece.
1:28pm: I sit down with some chocolate and see what is up next for the work day. Blessedly, there are no new emails, so I reference a to-do list I have on a scrap of paper from last week. I decide to rewrite the list with steps broken down before attacking it.
3pm: I break for a pumpkin cookie with peanut butter and to refill my water.
5:15pm: I log out of work and fiddle around with pizza dough recipes before heading to the kitchen to straighten up and make the dough.
5:45pm: Leave the dough to rise in the kitchen. One of my roommates is heating up a frozen lasagna in the oven, so my dough should be happy. I caramelize some onions and throw some sliced mushrooms in with them to top the pizza with when the dough is ready.
7:15pm: I can’t wait any longer, so I deflate the dough and split it into two. I shape and top one pizza and place the other half in the fridge for tomorrow’s dinner. Pizza in the oven.
7:40pm: Dinner, followed by dinner YouTube (mostly vintage SNL), followed by a pumpkin cookie and a wandering path to bed, eventually.

Day 6, Tuesday, October 13, 2020

8am: I’m awake, peek outside, and then snuggle back into bed with my phone.
8:30am: Out of bed to make breakfast - two slices of sprouted toast, two scrambled eggs with some of the caramelized onions and mushrooms from last night and mozzarella stirred in, applesauce, and my multivitamin.
8:50am: I sit down at my desk to start the workday. Email is at 61, but I anticipate I’ll get a bunch forwarded to me within the hour. I start reading applications.
9:45am: Quick break to put away dishes and then back to applications.
10:30am: End is in sight with my applications, but I have to pause for our weekly staff meeting. These used to take a whole hour, but now we can get them down to a neat 20-30 minutes. People share anything relevant to the whole office, and oftentimes share something personal like what they did over the weekend, how their pet/child/plant is doing, or show a show-and-tell item.
1pm: I got a bit distracted after the end of the meeting, but I sit down to lunch (same as yesterday, acorn squash with marinara sauce, white beans, and feta, and an apple) and try to get some things done.
4pm: With all of our recruiting being done virtually, I get to attend and answer questions during info sessions and webinars that my office hosts. Today I’ve been tapped to support one of our Directors, answering questions in that Zoom chat while she coordinates the live interaction. I’m still on camera and end up answering questions with her too, and am exhausted after the whole ordeal.
5:25pm: I call it quits with work. We’re up over 70 emails again.
6:45pm: One of my roommates texts that she’s thinking she might travel for a funeral this weekend. I honestly don’t have the tools in my toolbox to handle this right now, and so I don’t. Dinner is pizza like yesterday, with the dough I left in the fridge. It’s a better-developed crust and I’m very pleased with it. I munched on an apple while it was baking.
10:15pm: I bake some brownies and pour sprinkles on top. They’re done in about 45 minutes and I slice them to cool, then enjoy two.
2am or so: I get anxious about work, so I answer some emails and set them to send in the morning. Down to 63. Then off to bed.

Day 7, Wednesday, October 14, 2020

I neglected to log this day as it happened since it ended up being a mental health day for me. I was up and about in the morning, finished applications, and then felt ill enough to call out of work. Luckily I was able to coordinate with my supervisor, so I was able to break, nap, and take care of myself. I also picked up a new office chair from my Buy Nothing group in the evening, and had my boyfriend over for dinner on the balcony. Breakfast was oatmeal that I made in the instant pot with peanut butter, raisins, and honey. Lunch was eggs with caramelized onions and mushrooms and mozzarella cheese on sprouted toast with grapes. And dinner was pumpkin ravioli in a butter garlic sauce with kale, and focaccia that I made.
Total Expenses:
Food + Drink: $27.77
Fun / Entertainment: $0
Home + Health: $0
Clothes + Beauty: $0
Transport: $0
Other: $0
Lastly, reflect on your diary!
This was a pretty normal week for me. I always get groceries once a week, and we’re solidly in the middle of the month, so I didn’t have rent or utilities to pay. As reflected in my expenses section, I don’t have too many wants and try to limit my financial obligations. This diary does showcase my participation in my Buy Nothing group, and I have gifted items in the past and will do so again before I move.
In the future, I know I will need to build out a more robust budget to allow for things I like to do that are generally on pause now, like seeing plays and musicals, going to aquariums and zoos, and traveling to see friends and family. The habits I have now will enable me to enjoy those activities in the future without worrying about the cost. I’m currently working on projecting my larger future expenses, like new contacts and glasses, some professional certifications, moving, and even grander some-days like going to graduate school, self-funding maternity leave, and financially incentivising retirement saving for my siblings.
