YouTube Downloader für Android: Mit APKs kostenlos Musik

TLDR: I made a YouTube video downloader for android and pc, download links will be at the bottom.

First some backstory, about 6 months ago I found myself in a position where I had to download about 200 YouTube videos, and quickly realized how boring this task is. Using the traditional YouTube mp3 converter websites downloading all of this videos would take hours, so I thought "why spend 2-3 hours downloading videos manually when I can make an app to do that for me", and here have I been going at it for about 6 months, still, totally worth it.

I quickly found youtube-dl, a python library that not only could download videos but entire playlists, for the time I just made a simple console app, url in, videos out.

But I wanted more, using it was annoying and not very fun, I couldn't choose video names, or file path, or the extension, or quality, etc, etc.

What I really wanted was a browser extension. So I looked into chrome extensions and with a friend of mine we got to work, even just getting the URL of the current page was a pain, and it only got worse when we realized that the browser doesn't natively support node modules, big problem since we planned on using YouTube-dl but for JavaScript, but all is fixable, some googling later we found browserify, perfect we though, then we ran it... An error, well it looks like browsers have some security features and extensions cant mess with the filesystem, a big bummer since the module needs to do this to download the file.

But all was fixed, all we needed was a client side server handling the downloads, the extension only sends the url data to it, early drafts were ugly, console only, but after a lot of time I got a gui setup, an installer and even got the extension to work while packed, it just needed some registry messing (don't worry the installer does what's need, and the code is open source so you can see exactly what I'm doing)

But after this I thought how nice it would be to have this on android, and a whole new language learned later, and a lot of internal screaming I also got it working, even better than the pc one, since I can simply use intents to get the url to the app, i.e. a simple button on the share menu, and for those who read to here here's a secret, the app also works with reddit videos(some of them), imgur, Instagram, twitter and maybe Facebook, it even has a setting tab for quality, file location (this was a hard one), and feedback (github issue)

So after months of keeping this to myself I now release it to you all, please make changes to it if you want, it is open source after all, make the ui nicer, i'm not a graphic designer, and share it with people, maybe someday I'll try adding the extension to the chrome web store since it technically doesn't break store policy (it only sends a url to a local server), but not right now.

PS. If you find any bugs on the mobile version please report, it works fine on my smartphone (Poco F1 with evolution X) but not quite so well on the android studio emulator, no clue why.
